Fact Sheet: National LCC
-
America’s landscapes and the fish, wildlife, plants and cultural heritage they support are increasingly impacted by land use pressures and widespread threats amplified by a rapidly changing climate. These threats are not just impacting isolated places or a single species, but affecting entire landscapes and multiple resources. The ability to effectively plan for and address these threats across landscapes is beyond the ability of any one agency or organization.

North Atlantic LCC
-
The Northeast Region will lead the development of the North Atlantic LCC in 2010, while also beginning development of the Appalachian LCC. The Northeast Region will also be supporting the development of the Great Lakes and South Atlantic LCC. The region is building upon strong partnerships to create the North Atlantic LCC, which, guided by the principles of strategic habitat conservation (SHC), will develop and communicate landscape-scale scientific information to shape conservation across the Eastern Seaboard south to Virginia.

South Atlantic LCC
-
The South Atlantic Landscape Conservation Cooperative (SALCC) is part of a national network of Landscape Conservation Cooperatives (LCCs). The partnership will consider landscape-scale stressors, including climate change, habitat fragmentation, invasive species, and water scarcity as it attempts to provide a vision for a landscape capable of sustaining healthy populations of fish, wildlife, plants and cultural resources. The SALCC crosses six states, from southern Virginia to northern Florida.

Upper Midwest and Great Lakes LCC
-
The UMGL LCC area includes unparalleled deepwater habitats, beaches, coastal wetlands, more than 35,000 islands, major river systems, boreal forests, and prairie-hardwood transition zones. These habitats provide for extensive resident and non-resident game populations, fish and many other aquatic resources, waterfowl, colonial waterbirds, marshbirds, and neotropical migrant landbirds.

Task 4 Responses V3
-
Elements of success include both tangible (products, funding, actions with direct links etc…) and intangible components (the synergy of the partnership to foster ideas and relationships which may lead to changes in actions by participating collaborators etc…). Our response to this request for information on performance measures, and about project funding patterns, places the emphasis of success more on the measures that are tangible and directly tied to LCC action, but does not appropriately capture the value of a broad partnership. This should be a topic of conversation with the NAS panel.
